Whether you raft, hike, canoe, kayak, or chill by a fire with a cold beverage…you can kick back at the end of your day in a private cabin at the Big Moose Inn. Indoor Lodging near Baxter State Park, Mount Katahdin, and the Penobscot River
For many of you, camping is the way to go. Pitch a tent at the Big Moose Campground nestled in the woods and walking distance to the lakes, and kick back!
Others may want the comforts of a bed, full kitchen, and WIFI access in the main lodge! We’re excited to be located at the Big Moose Inn, with a variety of indoor lodging and accommodations for our whitewater rafting guests, including inn suites with private baths, inn rooms with shared baths, lakeside cabins, and trail side cabins. Situated between Millinocket and Ambajejus Lake, the Big Moose Inn offers on-site canoe, kayak, and SUP rentals as well as moose boat tours and scenic float plane rides. These additional offerings make a Penobscot whitewater rafting trip turn into a full Maine vacation and getaway!
Inn Rooms & Suites
The Big Moose Inn offers a wide variety of inn rooms and suites, perfect for people looking for bed and breakfast style rooms. These rooms have heat/AC, WIFI, private or shared bathrooms, and easy access to the Loose Moose pub & bar, as well as Fredericka’s casual fine dining restaurant.
Private Cabins
In addition to the inn-style rooms, the Big Moose Inn has private cabins with a variety of twin, bunk, full, and queen size beds. These private cabins are great options for small and large groups, including families, couples, and groups of friends! The Katahdin Cabin, pictured below, is a favorite amongst bachelor and bachelorette parties with its huge deck, multiple sleeping spots, full kitchen, volleyball net, and sleeping for up to 20 guests!
Walk to Restaurants, Bar, WIFI, Convenience Store and Two Lakes!
All cabins and rooms are located within a short walk to two restaurants, Fredericka’s casual fine dining and Loose Moose for pubfare. You can often find live music on weekends at the Loose Moose, as well as an opportunity to relax at the rooftop bar in the middle of the Maine woods! The Big Moose Inn also has free wifi access to guests when located in the main Inn. Also next door? The North Woods Trading Post, with access to convenience store items such as gas, food (pizza, sandwiches, etc), local gifts and souvenirs, beer, and wine. Big Moose Inn and North Woods Trading Post are situated between two beautiful lakes along the Penobscot River corridor, and are great spots for swimming, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and SUPing.
A Walk Away from the Penobscot River Morning Meeting
When you wake up on the morning of your Penobscot River rafting trip, you have a short walk through the grounds to meet with your whitewater rafting guides. Grab a bite to eat at Fredericka’s or a quick sandwich-to-go at North Woods Trading Post, and then head over to our Base Camp right on site of the Big Moose Inn grounds – just follow the signs!
