Beer, whitewater, and my Northern family.
What is your favorite river to guide, and your favorite rapid on that river?
Penobscot because the river gods have a way of humbling you up there. It pushes you as a guide. The thrill of not knowing if it’s your day to swim the gorge or not is exhilarating.
What’s your classic Northern Outdoors memory?
Not remembering after completing a Northern Brewer Rainbow.
Where do you adventure when you are not working?
Back to the river for a play run, to the mountains for hiking and biking, and to the bar.
What do you do in the off-season when you’re not guiding for Northern Outdoors?
K-4 grade Title I interventionist and the care taker of a beautiful 4 year old little girl.

All 18 of the Kurland “Brain Trust” had a blast last year at the Forks. Planning our annual trip this year August 14 to the Penobscot. Might have a few additional rafters to add to the manifest. Popular demand warrants that you join us for the ride. Hope to see you there!
