Special Year
This year (my seventh with this outfitter) I returned to Northern Outdoors and had a very special year. I’ve always enjoyed hunting here, great stand locations, their food and beverages (brewery)are excellent. Add the camaraderie, hard working guides that are good people that know there business and Hunting in Maine doesn’t get any better. Yes there have been years I haven’t even seen a deer but that is the way it is hunting in Maine, however there is always that next day, hour or minute.
This year on the first day of the hunt I was able to take an eight point 210lb Maine Buck, it was a morning I will never forget. The guide, Greg Caruso, did an outstanding job, he was there to help with the dressing and then “man handling” that deer out of the woods, not an easy task. For the rest of the week Greg allowed me to tag along with him and I got to see the life of a guide 1st hand. We scouted numerous areas, checked existing stand locations making sure there was still fresh sign, set up both ground blinds and climbing stands for hunters and then checked on hunters around noon time every day. Being part of all this I realized Greg was always trying to get his hunters in the best place for success, however, the thing I really appreciated was the fact that it was easy to see Greg loved the outdoors. He also was very patient with me trying to keep up with him and certainly generous with his knowledge.
I can’t wait to go back!! .
